Friendship

The secret of friendship is concern, The secret of love is sacrifice, The secret of happiness is giving, And the secret of life is God!

When a friend is in trouble, don't annoy him by asking if there is anything you can do. Think up something appropriate and do it.

Friendship marks a life even more deeply than love. Love risks degenerating into obsession, friendship is never anything but sharing. True friendship can afford true knowledge. It does not depend on darkness and ignorance.

The holy passion of friendship is of so sweet and steady and loyal and enduring a nature that it will last through a whole lifetime, if not asked to lend money.

Friendship should be surrounded with ceremonies and respects, and not crushed into corners. Friendship requires more time than poor busy men can usually command.

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when you discover that someone else believes in you and is willing to trust you with a friendship.

There can be no friendship without confidence, and no confidence without integrity. Friends come and go, but enemies accumulate.

Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?
